Prerequisites
Before getting started with NB-IoT, you need the following:
NB-IoT SIM card
An NB-IoT SIM card is similar to a regular LTE SIM, but it is specifically configured and provisioned by the mobile network operator to support Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT). While a regular LTE SIM gives you access to standard mobile data services, it usually won’t work for NB-IoT unless the operator has explicitly enabled NB-IoT on that SIM.
- If your operator supports NB-IoT, they may provide a dedicated NB-IoT SIM card.
- In some cases, a standard LTE SIM can be used, but only if NB-IoT service is activated on it by the operator.
- Without this activation, your device won’t be able to connect to the NB-IoT network, even if coverage is available.
Supported frequency bands
Your device must cover the NB-IoT bands used by the target network (for example, Band 8, 20, 28, etc.).
Operator credentials
Access point name (APN) if you’re using IP mode, and any special profile if the operator requires it.
